Children in Springfield receive new winter coats through Operation Warm

The children were able to pick out their favorite coat, hat and mittens

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – More than 100 children attending early education programs at Square One in Springfield received new winter coats Monday.

Columbia Gas partnered with local firefighters to deliver the coats, hats and mittens as a part of Operation Warm. Columbia Gas agreed to donate one new coat for every home energy assessment requested during the month of October. Local firefighters pledged to match each coat donation made by Columbia Gas.

“Partnering with Operation Warm is a wonderful way to support our customers and our communities,” said Steve Bryant, President of Columbia Gas of Massachusetts.  “We have a long history of collaborating with our local fire departments.  Joining together to help needy children stay warm is a wonderful continuation of that partnership – and in a new way – support the communities we serve.”

The coats were brought to the children on a fire truck with its sirens blaring. Since 2002, Operation Warm has delivered nearly 2 million winter coats to children in need throughout the U.S.
