PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) – As the holidays approach, the season of giving has begun. The Palmer Cub Scout Pack 164 dedicated their Saturday to helping those in need.
Cub Scout leader Pierre Chevalier told 22News it teaches kids the necessity of giving back. He said, “It’s all part of the Scout way to help other people, to do a good deed every day, to be helpful and courteous.”
During this day of community service, the Palmer Cub Scouts are both donating and accepting donations that will help benefit six different charities.
Cub Scout Alex Jaworski told 22News, “They are going through a bad time and they really need help, and that’s where we come in.”
Cub Scout Yesiel Opio added, “We help others in need, if someone needs help we are always there to help them out.”
Many people dropped off donations at the Second Congregational Church in Palmer, which included food, clothing, and toys.
Cub Master Heather MacInness told 22News, “We have it from our leaders, from our families who are in the pack, and others who are associated with the pack and members of the community.”
All of the collected items will be donated to various charities and organizations including Scouting for Food, Operation USO care package, the Salvation Army, Second Chance Animal Shelter, Baystate Children’s Hospital, and Toys for Tots.
