Volunteers wanted to help conduct Western Mass Red Cross program

Volunteers are still needed to make the program a success.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Western Massachusetts Red Cross needs volunteers to help conduct its fire protection program.

Under the “Home Fire Campaign”, 22News is teaming up with the Red Cross and local fire departments to install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in local homes. It’s a five year program designed to reduce home-fire deaths by 25%. Volunteers are still needed to make the program a success.

Mary Nathan, the Western Massachusetts Red Cross Chapter Disaster Program Director, said “We’ll give them a bit of training and then they will go out. The fire department will actually install the alarms, out red cross volunteers will help the homeowners receiving the safety and prepare their materials.”
