SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The victim of a shooting Wednesday night in Springfield’s Maple High-Six Corners neighborhood has died.
According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, officers had been called to Maple and George Street at around 8:45 that night, after their “shotspotter” activation system picked up the sound of gunfire in the area. When they got there, they found 38 year-old Eric Caudle of Springfield suffering from a gunshot wound.
Police provided first aid and CPR until EMTs arrived to take Caudle to Baystate Medical Center, where he died less than two hours later.
Delaney said that police have been working around the clock to find possible suspects, and that Hampden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni has also been working on the investigation. Police have not released a motive for the killing. If you have any information, you are urged to call Springfield Police Detectives at (413) 787-6355, or you can anonymously “text-a-tip.”
Delaney says that Police Commissioner John Barbieri has expressed the department’s condolences to Caudle’s family.
