SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The identity of the person who died in a crash in I-91 near Exit 2 in Springfield Friday has been released.
Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni’s office said the driver of the car involved in the crash has been identified as 26-year-old John A. Font-Rodriguez of New Britain, Connecticut.
Font-Rodriguez was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with serious injuries where he died, the Hampden District Attorney’s Office says.
The crash began in a police chase that started in Connecticut. Massachusetts State Police were notified that Connecticut State Police were pursuing a car whose driver didn’t stop for them on I-91 Northbound around 12:30 a.m. Friday, the Hampden District Attorney’s Office says.
Massachusetts State Police saw a car matching the description driving at a high-speed rate. Massachusetts State Police say the vehicle continued to flee from them at a high rate of speed as it approached Exit 2 in Springfield.
Font-Rodriguez lost control of the vehicle when attempting to take the exit ramp and crashed, Massachusetts State Police say.
Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash, with the assistance of police in Connecticut.
