HATFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – MassDevelopment issued a bond to Five Colleges, that will provide funding for a new 34,664 sq. ft. facility.

Five Colleges is using the bond to buy 12 acres of land in Hatfield where they will build the library annex.

Five Colleges, a nonprofit educational association, represents Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The new library will house print materials that can no longer fit at the Five Colleges member schools.

“Five Colleges represents the collaborative and regional spirit of Massachusetts’ many higher education institutions, and we are pleased to invest in the future of its campus libraries,” said MassDevelopment President and CEO Marty Jones. “This bond will help the consortium expand its library facilities and add much-needed space for educational resources in western Massachusetts.”

The Five Colleges partnership provides cooperation through the schools to create shared use of educational resources and facilities, a joint automated library system, shared faculty members and transportation between campuses.
