SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – People who drive on Interstate 91 through Springfield every day have wondered where they’ll put the snow this winter. With all of the construction, narrowed lanes and restricted traffic, there doesn’t appear to be much room to push snow off to the side.
Massachusetts Department of Transportation told 22News, despite construction, their snow removal plan is the same as previous years, which is to plow what they can; but they admit traffic could be impacted by heavier snow.
Ralph Romano of MassDOT said, “If the snow got to the point where plows could not handle it. We would bring in the larger snow fighting equipment, which includes these huge snow blowers that pretty much just eats it up and shoots it into a truck.”
MassDOT also said snow plows could push the snow over the barriers. They urge drivers to be patient, slow down and if possible, avoid driving in the snow.
