Students demand UMass become a sanctuary campus

UMass said they'll lay out a plan to achieve these protections on campus

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – UMass was one of more than 40 college campuses across the country demanding protection for undocumented and refugee students and staff.

Students staged a walk out this afternoon, demanding UMass become a sanctuary campus. Students have been signing a petition asking for this change.

UMass student Gina Collari told 22News, “I figured signing my name and doing the best I can could maybe send some hope and help some families.”

Harvard, Brown, and Yale are in the process of becoming sanctuary campuses. UMass said they’ll lay out a plan to achieve these protections on campus by this Friday.
