PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Statewide Grand Jury has indicted 20 people arrested earlier this year, accused of taking part in a multi-million dollar illegal gambling operation.

The Attorney General’s office announced the indictment as part of “Operation Free Roll” Tuesday. Police arrested the suspects back in April, following an eight-month investigation.

According to the indictment, the suspects took wagers on sports contests, set betting lines, and collected money. Several suspects are also facing marijuana trafficking charges.

Police said they seized about $1.5 million worth of marijuana during the April raids, which included a beachfront home in Narragansett and a restaurant in Warwick.

The suspects are scheduled to be arraigned in December.
