Chicopee Police: Man arrested trying to break into home

The suspect will be in court on Wednesday

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee Police arrested a man who allegedly attempted to break into a home on Arcade Street.

Chicopee Police Officer Michael Wilk told 22News officers were dispatched to the home around 3:55 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a man attempting to break-in.

When officers spoke with the victim, she said the suspect was banging on the door and when she opened it, the suspect reached in, and tried to force the door open, said Wilk.

The woman opened the door thinking it was her husband, and when she realized it wasn’t, she tried to slam the door shut. The suspect, Joel Colon, 25 of St James Ave in Springfield, continued to try and force the door open screaming that he was going to kill her, said Wilk.

Colon allegedly ran when she forced the door shut. Officers searched for Colon and found him in the area of Schoolhouse Road, said Wilk.

Wilk also said Colon would not comply with police and resisted arrest. He was taken to Chicopee Police headquarters and charged with:

  • Breaking and entering nightime for a felony
  • Vandalize property
  • Threat to commit a crime (murder)
  • Resisting arrest

Colon will be in court Wednesday morning.
