New host agreement for a medical marijuana facility approved in Springfield

Hampden Care Facility is now required to donate $50,000 to Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – After nearly 45 minutes of discussion, the Springfield City Council Monday night unanimously approved an agreement for a medical marijuana facility in the city. Hampden Care Facility will operate at 506 Cottage Street.

The City Council rejected the original host agreement proposal last August. At that time, Hampden Care Facility was asking for a 5-year exclusive agreement to be the only marijuana facility in Springfield.

Monday night’s host agreement allows for other companies to open in the city by going through the same process as Hampden Care.

“The most important thing is having an access point, and putting away the exclusivity clause was the right thing to do,” said Nichole Snow, the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Patient Advocacy Alliance.

Hampden Care is now required to donate $50,000 to Springfield, and $50,000 to the police department in 2018.
