Mayor Sarno, WMAS serve lunch to the homeless

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Helping to bring attention to homelessness and poverty the week before Thanksgiving.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno and the crew from 94.7 WMAS served lunch Monday at Friends of the Homeless in Springfield.
It’s National Hunger and Homeless Awareness week. Friends of the Homeless Executive Director Bill Miller told 22News events like these let people know that they’re here.

“I think the people who are here that they matter, they are valued by their public officials at the same time it raises public awareness of the work that we’re doing,” said Miller.

Miller says they’re here all year long to try and help end homelessness for the people that come here and they serve people from Springfield and it’s surrounding communities.

Chicopee Mayor Richard Kos and Holyoke State Representative Aaron Vega are scheduled to serve breakfast on Tuesday.  Westfield State Senator Don Humason is set to serve lunch on Tuesday.  West Springfield Mayor Will Reichelt is expected to serve breakfast at the Friends of the Homeless on Friday.
