5K walk and run in Longmeadow raises money for veterans

Proceeds will go to three different charities

LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – Veterans Day may have passed, but an annual 5K walk and run is making sure that the mission to support veterans extends beyond one day a year.

Saturday, in Longmeadow, hundreds of runners and walkers will be raising money for veterans that are in need. Proceeds from this year will benefit three different charities.

Some of the money raised will be donated to Homeward Vets, an organization that helps assist veterans transitioning from chronic homelessness.

Other charities that this run will benefit include the Knights of Heroes, which helps empower children who lost their fathers during military service, as well as the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home, which helps provide veterans with quality health care.

Registration is at 9 a.m.; the race will officially kick off at 11 Saturday morning.
