Veterans Day: What’s open, what’s closed

Some government services unavailable on this holiday

(WWLP) – Veterans Day is a national holiday to honor all Americans who have served their country in the armed forces. It is celebrated with parades and ceremonies in many communities across the country, while a variety of retailers and restaurants hold special promotions for veterans.

Here is a look at what is open, and what is not, on this holiday:

  • Banks: Most closed
  • Federal Offices: Closed
  • Libraries: Closed
  • Municipal Offices: Closed
  • Post Office: Closed, no mail delivery
  • Public Transit: See below for schedule changes
  • Registry of Motor Vehicles: Closed
  • Restaurants: Open
  • Retail Stores: Open
  • Schools: Closed
  • State Offices: Closed
  • Shopping Malls: Open

Public Transit

  • BRTA: No service
  • FRTA: No service, John W. Olver Transit Center closed
  • PVTA: Springfield and Northampton-area buses are on Sunday service; Changes also to UMass Transit. Click here for details
