3 people hurt in 2 car crash in Springfield

The driver was trapped and had to be rescued

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield firefighters had to use special equipment to rescue a man trapped in an SUV, Friday night, after it collided with a passenger car.

Aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner Dennis Leger told 22News, “Firefighters used the jaws of life to extricate the male driver from a Jeep Cherokee.”

Leger said the driver was pulled out from the passenger side after firefighters pulled the doors off the Jeep using hydraulic equipment.

The Jeep and an Acura collided near the intersection of Dickinson Street and Grenada Terrace at around 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The driver and two women in the Acura were all taken to area hospitals. Leger had no information on the extent of their injuries.

Springfield Police Lt. Marc Rolland said there were no road closures that he was aware of.
