Strong winds in western Mass. caused some damage

The drought has made the trees weaker

  1. GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The peak wind gust in western Massachusetts on Friday was over 40 mph and caused some residents to lose power.

Our 22News Skycam of Greenfield captured how strong the wind was; which forced the camera to shake.

Joe Alexopoulos of Tree413 told 22News how dangerous vulnerable trees can be when it’s this windy. He said, “Damage trees on a day like (Friday), can definitely leave powerlines vulnerable to getting damaged. Branches can fall, landing on top on them and ripping them down and can cause problems.”

Due to the drought, trees are weak right now, which will allow tree limbs to come down much easier. If you think you have a damaged tree on your property, contact a professional.
