AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Veterans Day is a time to honor all those who have served our country. To show our respect for those who have defended our freedoms in the armed forces, 22News observed a moment of silence at 11:00 A.M,; broadcasting live images from Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam on the air and here on WWLP.com.

More than 9,000 veterans rest in peace at the Agawam cemetery.

11:00 A.M. is the time of many traditional Veterans Day ceremonies. The hour is chosen because it was marks the hour of the armistice that ended World War I – “the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month,” back in 1918.
