AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – The temperatures may have been moderate these last few days but cold air is on the way. 22News is working for you with different alternatives for winter fuel.

Central heat, space heaters, fire places, pellet stoves, all options to help you keep warm this winter.

Most of us didn’t have our heat on Tuesday when temperatures were in the 60s but most of us might be turning our heat back on as we get ready for possibly the coldest air of the season.

This Saturday high temperatures are forecasted in the 40s, a good ten degrees below average for this time of the year. But heating can get pricey. One resident told 22News he switched to a pellet stove to save money. Mike Szeady, from Whately, told 22News, “Well oil got quite expensive and I had a wood stove and I used that for quite a few years but to replace the piping for the wood stove got expensive so I went to the pellet stove.”

22News went to Rocky’s Ace Hardware in Agawam to find out that if you don’t want to use a pellet stove you can use bio brick. Bio Brick is condensed saw dust used in wood stoves. Samantha Mariani, who is an Assistant Manager at Rocky’s Ace Hardware, told 22News, “Its more compressed so it burns longer than an actual block of wood cause hard wood and soft wood can be used in wood stoves but the hard wood is better because of higher density but bio brick has the same density.”

How you heat your home of course depends on what stove you have.

Rocky’s told 22News that they have been busy with people knowing that winter is not too far away.
