SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The legacy of a Springfield marine will live on through a memorial in the city’s new catholic high school.
A dedication ceremony was held on Wednesday to announce the naming of the Thomas J. Sulllivan Memorial Alumni Plaza at the new Pope Francis High School.
Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan was killed in an attack on a naval reserve center in Chattanooga, Tennessee in July of 2015. He grew up in East Forest Park and was a 1994 graduate of Cathedral High School.
“Pope Francis High School will be a legacy of Cathedral and Holyoke Catholic and it’s a fitting way to maintain the legacy of my brother who loved the school, loved the community, loved the neighborhood,” said Thomas’ brother, Joseph.
The plaza will be located in the front entrance of the new Pope Francis High School, which is expected to open in the fall of 2018.
