NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) — A driver stopped for speeding in New Hampshire has been accused of keeping $21,000 worth of marijuana in his car.

The car driven by 27-year-old Nicholas Leone, of Worcester, Massachusetts, was stopped on Interstate 95 in North Hampton on Tuesday. A trooper said he clocked it traveling at 90 miles an hour in a 65 mph zone.

The trooper detected a strong odor of marijuana. Leone said he had some marijuana, which he showed the trooper, before being taken into custody.

A search of the trunk led to the recovery of seven pounds of marijuana in a duffel bag and more than $31,000.

It wasn’t immediately known if Leone had a lawyer; a message was left at a phone number Wednesday. He’s scheduled for a Jan. 12, 2017, court date.
