SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Children in Springfield received winter coats Wednesday morning as a part of Columbia Gas and the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts’ Operation Warm.

Columbia Gas’ new partnership with Firefighters for Operation Warm provides winter coats to children in need. In October, Columbia Gas pledged to donate one new coat for every free home energy assessment requested by a customer that month. In turn, local firefighters pledged to match each donation with another coat.

“Partnering with Operation Warm is a wonderful way to support our customers and our communities,” said Steve Bryant, President of Columbia Gas of Massachusetts.  “We have a long history of collaborating with our local fire departments.  Joining together to help needy children stay warm is a wonderful continuation of that partnership – and in a new way – support the communities we serve.”

Since Operation Warm’s founding in 1998, the organization has donated more than 2 million coats to children in need.

In addition to Springfield, Columbia Gas and the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts also handed out coats in Brockton and Lawrence, Massachusetts.
