Tosado re-elected in 9th Hampden District

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Incumbent State Representative Jose Tosado has been re-elected, 22News projects; defeating independent candidate Robert Underwood in a rematch.

With 59% of precincts reporting, Tosado has a commanding lead with 5,383 votes or 81% to Underwood’s 5,383 votes or 19%.

A Springfield Democrat and former City Council president, Tosado won his first term in the Legislature in 2014; winning a contested Democratic primary and defeating Underwood in the general election. Underwood, also a Springfield resident, sought the seat in the 2004, 2006, 2010, and 2012 elections as well.

The 9th Hampden District is located largely in Springfield, and includes portions of the city’s Boston Road, East Springfield, Indian Orchard, Liberty Heights, Pine Point, and Sixteen Acres neighborhoods. It also includes a single precinct in Chicopee Falls.
