Greenfield Community College hosts information fair for veterans

Participating organizations offer help to veterans transitioning into school and home life.

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Greenfield Community College hosted a Veterans Information Fair in the Cohn Dining Commons. It was the second time GCC has hosted a Veterans Information Fair.

The fair served as a one-stop location for local veterans to understand the help that’s available to them. Local and national organizations explained the programs and services they offer to veterans. Among groups participating were the Franklin Hampshire Career Center, the US Family Health Care and the local Veterans Service office.

GCC’s Veterans Councilors like Chris Demars work with these organizations to help veterans transition to school and home life. “The tough part is making them feel that they fit in,” he said. “And that’s what is our biggest goal: helping them fit in here at GCC and accomplish their goals.”

Demars also told 22News that they help veterans find jobs and apply to four year schools. Many veterans are pursuing degrees in engineering and in the medical field.
