Congressman Richard Neal re-elected in 1st Congressional District

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Congressman Richard Neal has secured another term in the House of Representatives, the Associated Press projects.

With 5% of precincts reporting, Neal is ahead with 13,427 votes or 73% of the vote to independent Frederick “Fritz” Mayock’s 3,672 votes or 20% and Libertarian Thomas Simmons’ 1,419 votes or 8%.

A Springfield Democrat, Neal was first elected to the U.S. House in 1988, and has won re-election with relative ease ever since. He represents the 1st Congressional District, which includes all of Berkshire and Hampden Counties (except for a single precinct in Palmer), as well as western Franklin County, western and southern Hampshire County, and southwestern Worcester County.
