4-year mayoral term approved in West Springfield

Town's current mayoral term is 2 years

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Voters in the town of West Springfield say that they want to increase the length of their mayor’s term.

With all precincts reporting, the supporters of a ballot question for a four-year mayoral term have won with 7,555 votes to the”no” side’s 4,704 votes.

Similar recent ballot questions have lengthened the mayoral terms in Springfield and Holyoke, while the neighboring cities of Westfield, Agawam, and Chicopee have held on to two-year terms.

The change will not go into effect until after the 2017 mayoral election, which will be the first one for a four-year term.
