CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s been a little over a week since the state’s all electronic tolling system went into effect and the toll booth demolition began.

According to MassDOT, phase 1 is expected to be completed at 6 interchanges. It involved demolition of toll plaza infrastructure in the center areas of plazas.

At interchanges 5 and 6 in Chicopee, 4 in West Springfield, and 3 in Westfield, overhead toll booth structures have been removed.

One West Springfield man said he’s worried about being overcharged.

James Crawford told 22News, “I had an issue and they said everything was fine, and then I got a fine in the mail. So I’m hoping I don’t get more in the mail, while everything is trying to be fixed.”

MassDOT told 22News that construction is on schedule at 23 work zones across the state, and in some places, it’s ahead of schedule.
