SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A group of young aspiring models received a gift that generations before them were given; a safe place to express themselves.
Kids strutted down the catwalk in the latest fashions at the I Am Me kids fashion show. The show encourages inner city youth to be all they can be, by expressing themselves through fashion.
Dozens of people gathered at the Dunbar Community Center for the fashion show. It is a place that recently had an uncertain future after facing financial issues. They were financial issues that Mount Zion Baptist church helped to relieve.
Pastor Atu White of Mount Zion Baptist church told 22News, “The members of Mount Zion Baptist church decided to be one of those partners, to make sure that a center like this can continue for years to come.”
Mount Zion plans to expand the arts, wellness, and educational programs offered at the center.
Saturday’s fashion is a preview, before the annual fashion show, held every year at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield.
