BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut State Police are seeking a man who failed to show up for his trial on charges he choked his girlfriend to death in a car.

A judge has issued a re-arrest warrant for 29-year-old Cesar Martinez, a Mexican citizen whose last known address was in Bridgeport. He was supposed to go on trial Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court.

Martinez is charged in the April 2013 death of 23-year-old Brenda Hernandez of Bridgeport on Interstate 95 in Fairfield.

Authorities say Martinez told investigators he and Hernandez were arguing and he accidentally strangled her while trying to prevent her from jumping out of the car after she had kicked out a rear seat window. Two other people were in the front of the car.

Martinez posted $250,000 bail after his arrest.
