WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Preparations for West Springfield Veterans Day observance took shape Saturday at the town common.

Hundreds of 3 by 5 foot flags made their appearance thanks to the West Springfield Lions club.

Each flag bears the name of a West Springfield veteran. The Lions club is raising money for its scholarship fund, which benefits deserving young people in town.

John Ladue of the West Springfield Lions club told 22News, “We have like over 300 flags. It looks like the final total will be 300 flags in West Springfield, so it looks like we’re up to nine or ten scholarships.”

These flags will play a significant role in the Veterans Day parade and ceremony at the Veterans monument on the town common Friday morning.
