STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — An 18-year-old Stamford High School student has died after being struck by van while crossing a city street.
Police say the female student was trying to cross Strawberry Hill Avenue and was not in a crosswalk when she was hit by the van shortly before 7:30 a.m. Saturday. She later died at a hospital.
Authorities say they will release her name Sunday.
Police say the van driver is a 37-year-old Stamford resident and is cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed.
The high school is on the same street. Police told The Advocate that students were taking SAT exams at the school Saturday, but could not confirm if the victim was going to take the test.
School officials say support staff are being made available to students.
