CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Governor Charlie baker declared Friday, November 4th Recess Day in Massachusetts.
Recess Day recognizes the importance of recess during the school day.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 7% of all students admit to skipping school due to fear for personal safety from physical and verbal bullying. Also, childhood obesity has allegedly more than doubled in the last 30 years.
Nearly half of all school districts in the region have allegedly either completely eliminated or reduced time for recess. This is because many educators view recess as problematic due to staffing, space, and student discipline issues.
With Recess Recess Day, Baker urges all citizens of the Commonwealth to take awareness of this event and to participate.
