Gas odor caused evacuation at Springfield elementary school

No leak was found, students returned to class

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield firefighters and gas company crews investigated a report of a gas leak at an elementary school in Springfield’s Forest Park neighborhood late Friday morning.

Dennis Leger, aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner, told 22News that the report of a gas leak at the Kensington Avenue Elementary School came in just after 11:00 A.M.

Spokesperson for the Springfield Public Schools Azell Cavaan told 22News the school was evacuated due to the smell of gas.

She said crews investigated the gas leak and found that there had been no leak at all.

The school has been cleared and students have returned to class.
