Alert issued after company recalls overdose antidote device

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) — Addictions agencies nationwide have issued an awareness alert after a company recalled a device used to deliver the drug overdose antidote naloxone.

The drug can be administered with a syringe-like device that sprays the drug into the nose; however, the device manufacturer, Teleflex Medical has voluntarily recalled their product after complaints it may not deliver the proper dosage.

Teleflex said they received complaints that the affected devices produced a straight stream of the medication instead of an atomized spray, which can make the drug less effective.

The recall affects over 66 batches that have been distributed across the country.
