Victims identified in deadly Westover crash

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The victims of a deadly crash at the perimeter of Westover Air Reserve Base have been identified.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni’s Office notified 22News the driver of the vehicle is identified as Travis Cerez, 29, of Chicopee, and the passenger is identified as Javier Zengotita, 39, of Chicopee. They were both dead by the time officers got to the crash site.

Westover Security requested Massachusetts State Police assistance at around 11:30 p.m. Monday for the accident that occurred at the end of Sheridan Street.

Lt. Col. James Bishop of Westover Air Reserve Base told 22News that the Kia Soul crashed through the gate, slammed into the jersey barriers on the other side of the fence, and caught fire.

State Police say the driver, Cerez, may have been speeding prior to the crash.

Gulluni’s Office said the investigation is being conducted by the Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.
