Chicopee Police: 2 suspects arrested for allegedly stealing $2K worth of jewelry

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee Police arrested a man and a woman, late Thursday afternoon, for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry.

According to Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk, the theft was reported around 7:30 a.m. on October 27th at the Hollister Jewelers on Memorial Drive in Chicopee.

Surveillance video shows a man speaking with an employee while a woman reaches into a case, and steal chains worth more than $2,000, Wilk said.

After an investigation, Wilk said the detectives identified the alleged suspects as 32-year-old George Rivera of Chicopee and 30-year-old Meaghan Carabetta of West Springfield. The two were arrested around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Wilk said both suspects were charged with Larceny over $250, but Rivera was also charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, which is his 4th offense. They are being held at the Chicopee Police Department Lockup.
