FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) — The trial of a Fall River man suspected of killing another man during a drug transaction then taking his vehicle to car a wash to clean away the victim’s blood is nearing an end.

The Herald News reports that closing arguments are expected Wednesday in the first-degree murder trial of 47-year-old Hiram Gonzalez.

Prosecutors say Gonzalez shot 24-year-old Brian Januario in March 2011 after meeting him for a drug deal. They say Gonzalez told his sister hours before the shooting that he was desperate for money to support his heroin habit and planned to rob someone.

The defense said although Gonzalez was present, another drug dealer killed Januario because Januario had robbed him and bragged about it.

Januario’s blood was found in Gonzalez’s car, despite the suspect’s cleaning efforts.
