SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The state launched a new website Tuesday to help you compare electricity supply rates, allowing you to stay informed about what you currently pay for electricity, and what you could be paying.

The state’s Department of Public Utilities has launched a new website called “Energy Switch Massachusetts.” It’s one-stop-shopping for customers to see suppliers’ products and costs listed all in one place.

22News tested it out. Just select your current supplier, and you’ll see who else has similar or even cheaper supply rates. Once you’re on the website, you can immediately start filtering through the prices, the contract terms, and the sources of renewable energy. When you find something you like, you can go immediately to that supplier and start signing up for the new service you’re interested in.

The site also lists cancellation fees and monthly estimates. Governor Baker said Energy Switch Massachusetts helps puts the power of managing your energy costs in your hands.

The new tool has Charles Hylton of Springfield re-thinking his plan to install solar panels to reduce his high electricity bills. “It’s something where people can have choices, so I think it’s a good idea. It’s up to you whether you want to switch or not, but the option is there.”

The DPU is hoping the website will help customers better understand information that might be confusing for families and businesses.
