CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News was able to get a look inside the old Quicky’s restaurant as construction crews work to transform the building into affordable housing apartments in Chicopee.
Currently, they’re gutting the ground floor, which used to be the Quicky’s kitchen and dining room.
“The building back there is going to have a complete facelift. New people in the area, new people walking around at night and during the day. It’ll be a definite improvement to the city,” said Jonathan Rymasz of Chicopee.
Chicopee City Planner Lee Pouliot told 22News much of the work to the upper apartments has started to come together. They’ve also been working to update the brick exterior.
The Quicky’s on Springfield Street closed at the end of August. Pouliot said they’ve been looking for a new location ever since, but just haven’t had any luck.
Jim Plasse of Chicopee said, “It was pretty popular. It was here for a good 28-years. Used to go there all the time. They’ve got some good wings, best in town. Hopefully they open up again soon.”
When construction is completed by the fall of 2017, 42 studio apartments will be ready for rent.
22News will continue to follow this story, and will let you know when the Quicky’s restaurant finds its new home.
