Tips for keeping your family safe this Halloween

Halloween is Monday and thousands of people will be out trick or treating

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Halloween is Monday and young people will be out trick or treating.

22News is working for you with safety tips on how to help keep your family safe.

Make sure trick-or-treaters are visible, especially at night. Add reflective tape to their costumes or bags. Their costumes should be made of flame-resistant material.

One Springfield mom told 22News she’s developed her own way to keep her two kids safe, while collecting candy.

Desiree Sanchez said, “Never walk down a dark street. Never approach a home if someone is not at the door, or if the porch light isn’t on. I always walk down streets that are active with a lot of trick or treaters.”

Remind children to use crosswalks, and look both ways before crossing. Also tell them to never accept rides from strangers.
