SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A man was shot and killed in a house on Jardine Street in Springfield Sunday morning.
Springfield Police Captain Trent Duda confirmed for 22News that detectives were investigating a homicide at 30 Jardine Street. Both Springfield and State Police are participating in the investigation.
Leo Almodovar lives a few houses down from the shooting, he told 22News he heard six or seven gun shots a little before 10:00 Sunday morning, and minutes later, police arrived.
Officers surrounded the house, put up caution tape, and ordered the neighbors to stay inside and lock their windows and doors.
Almodovar said, he rushed outside after hearing the gunfire. “I saw a gentleman trying to get into his car with a big red stain, and I didn’t think nothing of it because it’s Halloween. Couple minutes later, a State Trooper pulled up and that’s when I told my daughter, this is serious.”
Jardine Street is located just a couple of blocks away from Baystate Medical Center.
Springfield Police have not released any names of suspects or the victim involved.
Sunday’s shooting on Jardine Street marks Springfield’s 11th homicide of 2016.
