SALEM, Mass. (WWLP) – Hundreds of thousands of costumed ghouls, goblins and witches are descending on Salem, Massachusetts this weekend.

Officials are expecting some 250,000 visitors Saturday and Sunday, and another 50,000 or so on Halloween, which falls on a Monday this year. Police warn the massive crowds will lead to street closures, limited parking and heavy traffic. Visitors are encouraged to take the commuter train.

The city north of Boston that’s infamous for its 17th-century witch trials has been hosting a month-long extravaganza leading up to the big day. The festivities kicked off with a grand parade and will end with a fireworks display Monday night.

In between, revelers can take in a variety of witch museums, haunted houses, ghost tours, street parties, carnivals, costume parties and contests, and more.
