Wintry weather knocked out power to 5,000; some still in the dark Friday

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The first snow day of the season was heavy and wet on Thursday, causing slippery roads and multiple power outages. At one point, there were more than 5,000 customers without power across western Massachusetts, though the lights began to come back on for most as the night continued on.

By 8:00 a.m. Friday, MEMA’s outage map was showing only 340 customers without power across all four counties in western Massachusetts, with the vast majority of those outages being in Franklin County. Deerfield and Colrain had the most significant ongoing outages.

At its height, the most significant outages Thursday night were in:

  • Whately – 124
  • Ashfield – 128
  • Leyden – 136
  • Hadley – 149
  • Colrain – 209
  • Deerfield – 273
  • Greenfield – 340
  • Montgomery – 373
  • West Springfield – 441
  • Shelburne – 505
  • Springfield – 610
  • Easthampton – 653
  • Amherst – 918
  • Hatfield – 1,206
  • Montague – 1,236
  • Southampton – 1,336
  • Northampton – 2,496

There were also outages in Agawam, Southwick, Ludlow, Pelham, Southampton, Shelburne, Colrain, Lee, and Pittsfield.
