Hubble spots dead star’s ghostly glow

NASA added the ghoulish green coloring to give it a Halloween theme

(CNN) – Just in time for Halloween, NASA is sharing this eerie image of a “ghost” in space. You’re seeing the crab nebula, a star that exploded long ago as a supernova.

But a star-like object buried at its center is still a dynamic core, spinning 30-times a second. That energy produces a deadly magnetic field that generates some one-trillion volts of electricity.

The image was taken by the Hubble space telescope in visible light as a black and white exposure in 2012.

Nasa added the ghoulish green coloring to give it a Halloween theme.
