EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – After 37 years of service, Easthampton’s police chief is finally retiring. Chief Bruce McMahon gave his last call at 3:00 p.m. Thursday.

McMahon served as a special officer, patrolman, sergeant, captain and most recently as chief of police in Easthampton for the past 11 years.

He said hearing his colleagues congratulate him over the intercom on Thursday brought him to tears. “We’ve seen some really bad things and have experienced some really difficult things. To hear those people talk, everyone meant something, but those people are really special; really, really special.”

McMahon told 22News over 3 decades, he’s watched Easthampton change for the better, and trusts the team he’s leaving behind. He plans on beginning his retirement with a trip to Hawaii with his wife.
