CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee police officers arrested a young man who they allegedly caught pedaling a stolen bicycle.

Eighteen year-old Joey Sanchez of Chicopee is charged with larceny over $250 following his arrest Tuesday afternoon.

Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News that around 3:15 P.M., officers patrolling in Chicopee Center saw a 14 year-old boy who was franticly waving his arms. The boy told police that he had allowed someone to try out his $450 bicycle, but instead of giving it back, the man said “bye” and pedaled off toward Chicopee Street.

Wilk says that officers headed in that direction, and saw Sanchez, riding the stolen bike, near the I-391 entrance ramp. Sanchez was arrested, and the bicycle was returned to its owner.

Sanchez was released on bail, and will be arraigned Wednesday in Chicopee District Court.
