LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – A Massachusetts state trooper received minor injuries after his cruiser was struck in a crash on Interstate 91 in Longmeadow.

Trooper Nicole Morrell of State Police Media Relations told 22News that the trooper was inside his cruiser working a construction detail on the northbound side, when the vehicle was struck from behind.

The trooper was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries, Morrell said. He was eventually discharged from the hospital around 5:00 p.m. His name has not yet been released.

Trooper Paul Sullivan of the State Police Media Relations told 22News the driver of the pickup truck, an 83-year-old man from Deep River, Connecticut, was taken to Baystate Medical Center for treatment of “possible injury.”

Video sent to 22News through our Report It feature shows the cruiser with damage to its rear-end, as well as a pick-up truck a bit farther down the road with a smashed front-end and airbags deployed.

The right lane of Interstate 91 had been closed in the area for more than an hour after the crash, causing traffic backups all the way to the Connecticut state line. The backups have since cleared, and traffic is moving smoothly through the area.

Still no word on any charges being filed, but the crash is still under investigation.
