LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – Longmeadow residents voted Tuesday night not to build a senior center at Bliss Park. By majority vote, the town voted against building a senior center near the park’s basketball court.
The $200,000 project would have covered architects, engineers, site analysis, design, and traffic testing for the new building at Bliss Park. 22News heard from residents both for and against the senior center.
Elanor Stolar of Longmeadow said, “If you put a senior center in there, the park will be better. It’ll enhance the park.
Betsy Port of Longmeadow said, “The state is getting involved. It’s very important to keep open space open for future generations.”
Town Manager Stephen Crane told 22News about 1,000 residents attended Tuesday night’s meeting.
Over the last 2 years, the town has committed $85,000 to building a senior center at Bliss Park.
