LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) – The Ludlow Cares Coalition hosted an event Monday night to help combat drug use and promote healthy living.

Former Boston Celtics player Chris Herren spoke to students, parents and faculty about his own person battle with addiction. Herren now spreads his message of sobriety to families around the country.

Pat Gregoire, a Ludlow resident and advisory board member of the Ludlow Cares Coalition, stressed the importance of providing similar programs to students in surrounding communities.

“The addiction issue is a very large component lately and it’s not just Ludlow, it’s affecting every area around us in surrounding towns,” said Gregoire.

This is the first event of Red Ribbon Week, which includes a series of drug prevention activities for Ludlow residents.
