DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WWLP) – A former math teacher at Deerfield Academy is being sued again, by yet another man who claims he was sexually abused by him 30 years ago. Victims’ rights attorney Mitchell Garabedian is representing the plaintiff, known only as “John Doe,” in the lawsuit against Peter Hindle and an unnamed “supervisor or former supervisor” at Deerfield Academy.
The lawsuit alleges that Hindle, who worked 44 years at Deerfield Academy as a math teacher, coach, and dorm supervisor, abused the then-16 year-old victim at his dorm room back in 1986. The suit further alleges that there was “negligent supervision” of Hindle.
This is not the first lawsuit involving allegations against Hindle. Garabedian previously represented a California resident, who says that he was sexually abused by Hindle back in 1979. Deerfield Academy paid out $200,000 to settle that lawsuit.
Hindle has not been prosecuted for any alleged abuse, as the statute of limitations has run out.
This current suit is being filed in Bristol County, because Hindle is believed to be currently living in Dartmouth. The president of the non-profit group Road to Recovery will be holding a news conference about the lawsuit outside Dartmouth Town Hall late Monday morning.
