Appreciation dinner held for citizens and law enforcement

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The 9th annual “Safe Neighborhoods Initiative” appreciation dinner was held Monday night.

An estimated 200 people participated in the banquet at the Greek Cultural Center in Springfield. It’s held to celebrate citizens and law enforcement agencies who are working together to help make the neighborhoods of western Massachusetts safer.

Several recognition awards were handed out to honor citizens, partnership and leadership.

Ed Caisse, Program Manager of the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department told 22News, “We can see that we have seen change in people’s lives… we look at building community in people’s lives one person at a time one neighborhood at a time.”

Caisse told 22News a key to safer neighborhoods is to have more citizens get involved in Crime Watches and watching out for their neighbors.
